Cycle 31 Graduation
February 3, 2011
Our dear facilitators, family and friends; I would like to begin with a quote from the great writer Robert Frost who said, “Education is hanging around until you’ve caught on.”
Today is a turning point in each of our lives. We have spent the past ten months wandering the halls of the great school and now we are ready to go on. We have learned, laughed, loved, gotten into trouble, and most of all, matured together. But today doesn’t just concern reminiscing about the past. It’s also about looking forward into our future.
Looking back to the start of our cycle and back to the present, I have seen great improvement in all of us. In the beginning, there were lots of problems but, as we learned from our mistakes and with the help of facilitators, we have slowly improved our behaviour and attitudes. The days we shared will be left behind as days go by but I truly believe that the friendship and unity will remain strong and keep us together as a group as we tackle the future.
Life really is a series of passageways and we are leaving one and moving on to the next. We will meet new people, make new friends, and learn new things. We will grow older, more responsible, and independent. Then, and after that, we are left to traverse the unmapped expanse that is our future. Hereafter, our lives will hold many surprises for us, but I’m sure that we will approach challenges correctly if we fix our priorities and goals in life.
As we leave these hallowed walls of learning to go and begin our adult lives in whatever capacity we have chosen for ourselves, let us keep that thought in our minds as we enter this new phase in our lives. Whether it would be in the attainment of higher education, trade school, or entering the service of the workforce, let us strive forward to the best of our abilities to obtain our goals. When you leave here today, celebrate what you have accomplished but look forward with an eye toward how you too can be the inspiration for others.
On behalf of Cycle 31, I would like to thank the ALC*, especially Carlo, Mandi, Ivan, Larry, Lois and Joan, and all its investors for helping young adults like us get a better and brighter future. We also would like to thank our family and friends especially the ones here today for your never-ending support and guidance.
Congratulations Cycle 31!!
